On the afternoon of January 27th, 2005, SVA Group convened at its HQ the "Party Member Advanced Education Activity Mobilization Conference, symbolizing the formal initialization of SVA Group's Party member advanced education activity. Attendees included secretaries of Party organizations as well as organizational principals from SVA Group HQ, Central Research Institute, business groups and subsidiaries. The conference was presided by Gu Peizhu, president of SVA Group. At the conference, Ma Jianhong, deputy secretary of CPC SVA Commission made the mobilization report, and Luo Zhiqiang, head of the CPC Municipal State-Owned Capital Commission Advanced Education Activity Supervision Team gave a special report.
The event of 2004 Shanghai Famous Brands was completed. SVA Group's several SVA-branded products become Shanghai Famous Brand products for a new turn, including: color TV (including plasma, LCD and DLP), LCD display, vehicle-mounted display terminal, LCD module, etc. In addition, Shangyong-branded color picture tube is in the list for another year.
On the morning of December 22nd, 2004, Hu Qili, vice chairman of CPPCC visited SVA NEC. He congratulated the company on its achievement of 70% pass rate in a short time, and emphasized that good product rate and cost management were both the keys for the survival of a plant. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the company should pay close attention to the system construction to realize the ambition of SVA in its development of photoelectron industry by combining production, learning and analysis together.
On the morning of October 20, 2004, Jiang Yiren (chairman of Shanghai CPPCC) and Huang Guan Cong (vice chairman of Shanghai CPPCC) headed a group of governmental officials to SVA NEC for investigation. Jiang acknowledged the achievements that SVA NEC staff had put into the project into operation within a short period of more than one year, and raised several requirements: to form a industrial chain of new panel displays; To accelerate the localization process of relevant spares and parts; To focus on self development and master core technologies; To pay close attention to talents introduction and training.
On October 8th, 2004, jointly built by SVA Investment Co., Ltd. and NEC Corp with an investment of 114.6 billion Japanese Yen, the first 5G TFT-LCD production line in Mainland China was put into production at SVA NEC LCD Co., Ltd. The production line was started for construction in May 2003. After a short period of 16 months, workshop construction, equipment installation and testing, and trial run were all completed, marking a record in the construction of the same sized TFT-LCD manufactory. After the completion of Phase I, the capacity will reach 22500 large pieces (1100mm*1300mm) of LCD Panels per month.
On the afternoon of September 22nd, 2004, Mayor Han Zheng and his company paid a visit to SVA Group, and investigated the construction progress of the Shanghai key project - SVA NEC LCD project. Han Zheng said highly of the achievements made by SVA in a short time of 16 months from civil engineering to equipment provisioning and trial run. He also said that the municipal government would fully support the photoelectron industry in Shanghai in policies, and he hoped that SVA could master the opportunities in the new turn of development, further improve system and mechanism, better the increment of industrial development and state-owned capital, and speed up the development of photoelectron industry in Shanghai.
On the morning of August 19, 2004, municipal leaders including Chen Liangyu (a member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Shanghai Committee of Chinese Communist Party), Yin Yicui and Wang Anshun (Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Committee of Chinese Communist Party), Fan Deguan (secretary general of Shanghai Standing Committee of Chinese Communist Party and secretary general of the municipal committee of Chinese Communist Party), Jiang Sixian (secretary general of Shanghai Standing Committee of Chinese Communist Party and head of the municipal organizational department), as well as vice mayor Yan Junqi, Yangxiong and Hu Yanzhao visited SVA NEC LCD Co., Ltd. on its ongoing construction of 5th-generation TFT-LCD project. Xu Weihu (board chairman of SVA Group) and Gu Peizhu (president of SVA Group) accompanied the municipal leaders on their visit to the TFT-LCD workshops. Then, Chen Liangyu presided a meeting and listened to the reports from SVA Group, and gave a speech on accelerating the development of Shanghai's photoelectron industry. Chen also requested that SVA adhere to "two firsts" ideology, substantially drive forward the strategy of sci-tech boosting the development of Shanghai, and vigorously carry out key projects of key industries. He also mentioned that SVA should take control of the tech commanding heights and try to carve a new phase for the development of SVA Group.
August 10, 2004, 4:35 pm, SVA NEC's first TFT-LCD screen light-on test was proved to be very successful, symbolizing that the first batch of 22.5K equipments of the S1 production line is capable to produce TFT-LCD screens. It is the result of joint efforts from staff from the equipment supplier, NEC volunteers and employees of all corporate departments.
On the afternoon of July 29th, Hu Yanzhao, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, and Xu Jianguo, Vice Secretary-general of Shanghai Municipal Government and Director of Municipal Economic Committee made an on-the-spot investigation into SVA's NEC LCD project, which is one of Shanghai's Important Industrial Projects, and expressed satisfaction over the project's progress of the completion of the construction of SVA NEC main plant, readiness of Phase I equipment installation, normal operation of the technical commissioning, as well as mass production (22.5K) in October of that year. The also proposed that SVA Group should attract upstream and downstream enterprises with its mid-range products to settle in Shanghai and establish strategic partnership with powerful enterprises from home and abroad to form photoelectron products industrial base in Shanghai.
On May 19th, 2004, the project of "Shanghai SVA Group Patent Database" assumed by SVA Central Institution passed through the expert verification. It is one of the biggest patent databases of Shanghai enterprises. Leaders from Shanghai Intellectual Property Bureau and Shanghai Economic Committee attending the conference spoke highly of SVA as its implementations of patent database.
On May 26th, 2004, MII declared the 18th "Top 100" name list of electronic information. SVA was listed as No. 4 with 30.7 billion operation income. "Top 100" in 2004 (the 18th) was decided according to the enterprises' business income in 2003. SVA's rank was escalated by one level compared with the previous session.
On the afternoon of March 9th, 2004, Zhou Yupeng (member of SPCSC and deputy mayor of Shanghai) visited SVA NEC LCD Display Co., Ltd. for the ongoing LCD-TFT site together with principals from Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission, Shanghai Foreign Economic Relation & Trade Commission, etc. Zhou Yupeng felt satisfied with the achievements after the asset restructuring of SVA as well as the courage that SVA has been investing in the front technologies globally. He also wished that SVA should try every effort to lead the national electronic industry, form a competitive brand and become the pioneer during "Booming Shanghai with Technologies and Education"
On the afternoon of March 9th, 2004, Zhou Yupeng (member of SPCSC and deputy mayor of Shanghai) visited SVA NEC LCD Display Co., Ltd. for the ongoing LCD-TFT site together with principals from Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission, Shanghai Foreign Economic Relation & Trade Commission, etc. They also discussed the recent development and future orientation of SVA with Group leaders. Zhou Yupeng was satisfied with the achievements after the asset restructuring of SVA as well as the courage that SVA has been investing in the cutting-edge technologies globally. He also said highly of SVA's implementation of "walk out" strategy in recent years.
The list for Shanghai Famous Brand Products in 2003 was recently released. 13 categories of SVA products were listed in the list. SVA's branded products such as color TV (including Plasma, LCD and DLP), LCD display, network security equipment, Infinite series data communication products, Video Disc Player, etc. were on that list.
On Feb.2, 2004, Jiang Yiren, Chairman of CPPCC paid a visit to SVA Group for inspection. He showed full acknowledgement to SVA's approach in increasing new tech industries based on development. He also required: SVA should keep on looking for new revenue generating business opportunities and track the new trends of global technologies, should strengthen its tech development capability by mastering the core technologies, and should try for greater development based on focusing on the development. Chairman Jiang also inspected the LCD-TFT project site and the satellite base of SVA NEC LCD Display CO., Ltd.
On December 28, 2004, Shanghai SVA NEC Liquid Crystal Display Co. LTD. was formally founded with SVA holding 75% of its total capital. The first 5G TFT-LCD product line in China with a total investment up to 114.6 billion Japanese Yen began its construction recently in Shanghai. The joint venture will apply the most mature 5G TFT-LCD production and research technologies in the world to produce displays and modules for LCD monitors, laptops, LCD TV, etc. The joint venture is located in Xinzhuang Industrial Zone, covering an area of 1,200,000 square meters. It is predicted that the joint venture will start trial production in the second quarter of 2004 and complete the entire product line in the fourth quarter of the year. Its planned annual capacity is 540,000 large (1300mm X 1100mm) glass substrates, which can be then processed to be LCD displays from 15" to 23", maximally 57". If they are processed to be 15" displays, the annual capacity can be 6.52 million displays.
On the afternoon of December 10, it has been a year since SVA Group signed the long-term strategic agreement with MITSUI & CO., LTD. MITSUI & CO., LTD. and Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute hosted the large strategic seminar titled "Go to China, go to Shanghai". Over 250 representatives from government, finance, securities, electronic information industry, press, etc. attended the seminar, including Li Liangyuan, deputy secretary general of the government of Shanghai; Xu Yibo, deputy director of Shanghai Foreign Economic Relation and Trade Commission and Shanghai Foreign Investment Commission; Xu Weihu, Chairman of SVA Group; GM of SVA-Mitsui Property and Trade (P & T) Co., Ltd., etc. Xu Weihu presented a speech named "the developing SVA". As the first Chinese enterprise in the information electronic industry giving speech in Japan, that seminar was very successful in Japan. That would play a positive role for Shanghai to further its opening and for SVA to be involved into the international market.
On November 3rd, 2003, with the approval from Ministry of Commerce, SVA-Mitsui Property and Trade (P & T) Co., Ltd. announced its commencement in Shanghai. The company is jointly set up by SVA (Group) Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of USD 20 million, within which, SVA accounts for 60%. It is mainly engaged in the trading, materials, logistic and information services at home and abroad. Moreover, it will eventually become the logistic and information platform serving SVA's strategic goal.
On October 27, 2003, the Ministry of Commerce approved the formal establishment of SVA NEC LCD Co., Ltd. Previously on September 26, the State Council had already approved the feasibility report on the SVA TFT-LCD project.
On October 24, 2003, Chen Liangyu, the secretary of CPC Shanghai Commission presided a theme conference and listened to the report on SVA's TFT-LCD project. Xu Weihu, chairman of SVA Group reported on SVA Group's SVA/NEC-TFT project, the overall planning of establishing new panel display height and the implementation of Phase I of the project. Chen Liangyu fully acknowledged the role that SVA Group had been playing in its TFT project for developing high-new technologies, establishing a backbone industry and boosting the city with science and education. He said that the municipal government would develop relevant preferential policies to support the development of this industry. In addition, he also raised new requirements on the new turn of the development of SVA Group.
October 20, 2003, with the approval from the municipal government and the municipal state-owned capital commission, the directorate of SVA (Group) Co., Ltd. decided to appoint Gu Peizhu as the president of SVA (Group) Co., Ltd., and Jiang Songtao as the deputy president of SVA (Group) Co., Ltd.
